Wow! This has been an interesting process…When I started BOCL, it was because Mr. Wonderful was being a big dick and I posted on my personal Facebook, “thought for the day…Men are stupid…that’s it….Tune in tomorrow for more words of wisdom from me, the bitter old cat lady.
I started posting on Facebook occasionally, then I started thinking “hmmmm”, “maybe I can turn this into something”.
I discussed this with my friend Legs-she was originally going to partner up with me; she always has good ideas, but ultimately decided she already had too much on her plate. But she helped me get up and running with a DBA, my domains (that means the .com, .net, .org, .info and .biz I purchased) and she believed in BOCL.
I remember jumping up and down with her laughing at the clerks office after registering the name “Bitter Old Cat Lady”.
Opening a business account at the bank was super fun- we could barely sit still, we were excited about all of our ideas and we loved it when the guy at the bank handed us a card that had “Bitter Old Cat Lady” printed on it. Talk about having a huge high.
Bringing BOCL to life was the toughest. I knew she should resemble me and I knew what I wanted the logo to look like. First, Leg’s mom did a basic sketch for me, then, I used that to work with another friend, Veronica, who sketched BOCL out for me. She is loaded with talent and I am thankful to her for helping me put a face to BOCL. I’m pretty sure the designer I hired to create her still hates me for all of the revisions to the artwork, but ya know when ya know what something should look like?
Unfortunately, the first web designer I hired did not finish this so I could get up and running, thank God I found Dimon to bring this all to life.
Mr. Wonderful has been awesome. When we first met, he referred to BOCL as my “hobby”. No we laugh about that. He is so supportive and he really is wonderful. He’s not perfect; he still occasionally forgets to flush (ewwww) and is still after 2 years of training a blanket fucker upper (you know, kicks the pretty comforter onto the floor and screws up the sheets, EVERY DAMN DAY) but living with me is no picnic either!
When BOCL hit 10,000 likes, he gave me a coffee mug and printed up enough for me so my crazy friends and family could have one too.
I am gonna keep writing and get my ass in gear on trying to grow BOCL-I think anything is possible, shit I thought maybe 50-100 people would read the Facebook blog and it has averaged almost 1,000 likes a month since I launched it March 2015.
I have applied for my Trademark and I am hoping to continue to grow and have more fun.
That’s really a lot of why I decided to start blogging as Bitter Old Cat Lady-to have fun. Ok it’s also because I have a big mouth and because navigating marriage, divorce, dating, motherhood, job/career, life bullshit and doing it with sick humor and lotsa wine and martini’s has kept me from jumping off a cliff.
The private launch date of this website is Super Bowl Sunday, February 7, at my house, after watching the Panthers get their asses kicked…of course I wanted them to win, a panther is just a really big kitty…oh and their uniforms were cuter too. I was lucky to have my crazy friends here to show them this site and give them a coffee mug (you guys better drink everything outta the damn thing too!)
I am gonna officially launch and tell my Facebook people about this website on February 14th. This is my Valentine to me.
I am also gonna start working on getting some advertising on this website. Not only will that increase my chances of growing, it will give people the ability to look at other fun stuff when visiting me here.
I plan on selling/gifting ome fun shit like cups and glasses and calendars and whatever else I can to grow bigger and better.
