Rant of the day…
When I first saw this video on Facebook, the implications presented with it was that racism exists even at this young age. The person that posted it and implied this wants to divide people and present it in a way to cause angry commentary about racism.
Bullshit.
This is not racism, it is bullying. I was shocked and disgusted by it.
Two little girls bullying a toddler and being goaded by another child.
Calling her ugly and slapping her.
Who filmed this? Why is this acceptable?
Why the fuck would ANYONE find this OK?
Why would ANYONE re-post it?
It has 1,200 likes. It has been viewed over 200 thousand times.
It was posted on a site on Facebook that encourages people to send in videos.
So of course I just knew that Facebook, which has “standards” would find it offensive as well.
This is what those standards say about bullying:
Bullying and Harassment: How we respond to bullying and harassment.
We don’t tolerate bullying or harassment. We allow you to speak freely on matters and people of public interest, but remove content that appears to purposefully target private individuals with the intention of degrading or shaming them. This content includes, but is not limited to:
• Pages that identify and shame private individuals,
• Images altered to degrade private individuals,
• Photos or videos of physical bullying posted to shame the victim,
• Sharing personal information to blackmail or harass people, and
• Repeatedly targeting other people with unwanted friend requests or messages.
We define private individuals as people who have neither gained news attention nor the interest of the public, by way of their actions or public profession.
I reported it.
Because it’s wrong and it’s awful and seeing that little girl treated like that is not funny at all.
I got a response from Facebook.
“We reviewed the video you reported for promoting graphic violence and found it doesn’t violate our Community Standards”
Seriously?
Apparently this type of behavior is perfectly acceptable.
So tomorrow morning I have decided to head over to the local pre-school and set up my own fight club.
I’ll goad the little darlings to beat the shit outta each other and call each other names.
Then I’ll post it on Facebook.
Because it won’t be a “video of physical bullying posted to shame the victim” or anything like that.
Donald Trump’s campaign slogan is “making America great again”.
Now I do think he is a dick, and I haven’t heard anything he has to say about how he thinks he can make it “great again”, I think all in all America is pretty fucking great already, but I will say this;
America is NOT great when shit like this is tolerated and nothing is done to end it.
If you look at the big picture, how many kids who are bullied turn out to be loner assholes who want to lash out at the world?
Remember Columbine? UC Santa Barbara? Virginia Polytechnic Institute? Santana High School?
How many bullied kids end up committing suicide?
It all starts this young and having a social media giant like Facebook say it’s ok is really wrong.
I posted this blog on Facebook last night and they might censor me, cancel my page or just not send it to anyone because I’m criticizing them, but I really think they need to take a harder look at some of the decisions they make.
I hope they don’t, but this is their forum and they can do as they wish.
